Getting in shape with no effort is physiologically impossible and industry knows it. The “get in shape with no effort” industry is 100% dependent on the ignorance of their consumers to be in business.
The human body is an amazing master piece of our maker that is constantly in a process and status of homeostasis. This means it’s only possible to experience change of any kind, positive or negative change, when an unfamiliar stimulus is presented to our mind and body. An unfamiliar stimulus requires effort; some more so than others. The greater the effort the greater the changes. No effort equals no change. To think other wise is naïve. This is the most basic fundamental concept of Exercise Physiology. It also gives us an amazing level of control over our own mind and body IF we step up and take that level of control our maker has given us. To not grab hold of the opportunity to take more control over our mind and body is to let mind and body rot with the passing of time. I cannot think of anything more lame. It’s a blessing to have such a gift we’ve been endowed with by our creator so show your creator some respect and use it!
A tread mill, bike, or elliptical machine will produce some changes at first if you’re body is not use to it but because those motions are so repetitive the human body will adapt to these machines more quickly than anything else. Once adaptation to a new stimulus stops, so do the changes. In fact, on those particular machines, it’s more common than uncommon for people to become so efficient at these motions that they actually begin to put weight back on even if they double the amount of time they spend on the treadmill, bike, or elliptical machine.
The only way to get in great shape is to constantly add variety so your mind and body is never given the chance to adapt to whatever you’re doing to get in shape. If this is done correctly your mind and body will be in a continuous state of adaptation; never given the chance to adapt. Adaptation and change have a direct relationship. Cessation of adaptation and change also have a direct relationship. They both change together but they also both stop together. Adaptation is the cause for change while cessation of adaptation is the cause for a sudden halt to changes. To keep the changes going you must keep the PROCESS of adaptation going.

Cessation of adaptation to a stimulus equals plateau. This includes nutrition AND exercise. You NEED both to get healthy. You need to put some effort into it or change is simply not possible.
Make it a FUN effort. There are ALWAYS alternatives if something isn’t working for you so don’t do something that isn’t fun or you may not stick with it.
