A wonderful new book I'm reading I highly recommend...

New to me anyway it was published in 1984.  "You and Your Network" by Fred Smith.  I'm only a couple chapters into it but already this is one of the best books I've read.  I highly recommend it.  Here are a couple of excerpts from the book about having Joy for the Journey...

"Give yourself into forgetfulness -
Many people are literally sick of themselves. They become hypochondriacs of the spirit, thinking only of themselves without knowing that self absorption is their disease. They are consumed with their thoughts about themselves and with what others are thinking about them; surfeited with self image.

Unable to change their internal conversation with themselves, they go round and round, talking to themselves about themselves. Until this stops they have no opportunity for joy, and yet they want joy, but it won't come to those who are obsessed with themselves. It never has; it never will. The first essence of joy is giving oneself into forgetfulness."

Here is another excerpt from the same book...

"Joy and Health -
Joy can live in a handicapped or sick body because it is a matter of the spirit. However, it can live more comfortably in a healthy body; one that is respected and kept from the abuse of excesses, including excessive adulation, pampering, or even excessive care.

Those of us who would have joy for the journey must protect our bodies from the diseases they can catch from an unhealthy MIND. Whether we call them neuroses, psychosomatic illnesses, allergies, or by some other classification, they have their beginning as sickness in the mind and spirit rather than in the body."
